100bn/- to be spent to boost education quality

total of 100bn/- would be spent to improve quality of education in the country’s primary schools under the support of EQUIP-T, a programme geared at improving learning outcomes for children across the country.

EQUIT-T National Coordinator Carton Aslett said here over the weekend that the programme to run for four years would be implemented jointly by the ministry of Education and Vocational Training as well as the ministry of regional administration and local government.

EQUIP-T is an ambitious four-year DFID-funded programme delivered by the government and supported by the programme’s managing agent to improve learning outcomes for children across the country.

Aslett who was speaking during a workshop to introduce the programme to the heads of education departments and executive directors for Kigoma region, said that wrong teaching methodologies was one of the reasons some children completed primary education without reading and writing skills.

He said the programme would address teachers’ training, schools’ administration, community participation and collection of information concerning education.

For his part EQUIP-T Deputy National Coordinator James Sangoro said the aim of the programme is to empower teachers and education coordinators to offer better education.

He said the programme would be implemented in seven regions of Dodoma, Tabora, Shinyanga, Simiyu and Kigoma, adding that Mara and Lindi regions would also be added on the list.

Opening the workshop Kigoma Regional Commissioner Issa Machibya said the implementation of the programme would enable Kigoma Region address the numerous challenges in the education sector.
He called on all stakeholders in the region to work together in ensuring that the programme succeeds and improves the quality of education.
